Mississippi River Heritage Day
What: Celebrate the Mississippi River on Saturday, Sept. 13, 1-4:30 p.m., at the Kroening Interpretive Center in North Mississippi Regional Park, 4900 Mississippi Court. Participate in minnow races, create a boat to launch in the current, make a fish print T-shirt (bring your own shirt), and meet animals that live along the river. Go on a digital scavenger hunt or try the stream table. Solve a history mystery, meet Jacques the Voyageur, and learn to make rope, apple cider, and popcorn over the fire. Walk along the National Park Service’s giant River Map, make a "green" cleaner with the Minneapolis Green Team, and visit the Department of Natural Resources FiN tank of river fish. There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides from 1-4 p.m. and a puppet show by Z Puppets Rosenschnoz at 2 p.m. Fishing poles are available for children to use. Cost is $5, or bike to the event and save $1. There is a 20 percent discount for groups of four or more. Bike to the event and save $1. Open to all ages. Call 763-559-6700.
