Art Out of the Box: Eye Wonder, Wednesday, June 25, 2-3 p.m. Discover artists’ secrets and uncover illusions meant to trick the eye by looking closely at art from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (new.artsmia.org). Museum-trained teens will help you make art to hide your own secret messages. Materials provided. For kids entering grades 2-5. Registration required. Library Lab for Kids: Hula Hoops, Wednesday, July 2, 2 p.m. Kids entering K-grade 6 can learn hula hoop dances and games with a certified yoga and hula hoop instructor. Materials provided. Registration required. Sponsored by Friends of the Sumner Library.
Paws to Read With an Animal, Thursdays, July 17 and Aug. 14, 5:30-7 p.m. Volunteers will help put young readers at ease so they can cuddle up with a certified therapy animal and practice reading aloud. Most libraries host dogs and you can call ahead to see if other animals will be visiting. Presented in collaboration with North Star Therapy Animals.
Library Lab for Kids: Kaleidoscopes, Wednesday, July 23, 3-3:45 p.m. Kids entering grades 1-6 can build a unique and colorful kaleidoscope to take home.
