Celebrating 100 years of Cameras and Photography with National Camera
What: The Mpls Photo Center, 2400 2nd Ave. N, will host an exhibit from the National Camera Exchange, one of the oldest camera stores still in business in the USA., July 18-Aug. 31, with a public opening Friday July 18, 6:30-9:30 p.m., and a talk by Tom Arndt and Rob Silberman on the "History of Photography in Minnesota," on Tuesday July 22, 7-9 p.m. On display is the National Camera Exchange collection of unique cameras spanning the 100 years of photography, from cool Art Deco "Beau Brownies" to a giant 1910 Century #8. This exhibit will include cameras and photographs from some of Minnesota’s most prominent photographers, including Jim Brandenburg showing the first digital photograph published in "National Geographic" and his Fuji S1 that took the photo, Wing Huie showing a print from his "Frogtown" series and his Minolta X-700 and Chris Faust showing a Circuit Camera from 1914. Many of the nostalgic advertising, logos and other memorabilia capturing the essence of each decade from the store will be on display. Plus, have your photo taken in front of the Downtown store from the 1950s in a unique photo booth.
