Camden Neighborhood walking tour
What: Preserve Minneapolis offers unique tours that highlight the natural, built, and cultural treasures found throughout the City. Upcoming North Side tour: Camden Neighborhood walking tour on Wednesday, July 30, 6:30 p.m.

The Camden area, together with the Near North, form Minneapolis’ North Side. This tour will cover the settlement of the area around the mouth of Shingle Creek, industrial development in Camden (including the Minneapolis lumber milling district), and the effect of the construction of I-94 through the neighborhood in the 1970s and ’80s.

The tour will focus on the early days of the area, and discuss how urban development caused many of these early sites to be lost. The tour will visit the sites of the first school and first church in Camden, early industrial and factory sites, and early lumbering sites, and will point out places of interest including the brickworks along the Mississippi, the former Minneapolis Workhouse and the former Hopewell Tuberculosis Hospital.

This tour walks about 1.5 miles; the tour guide is Eric Nystrom. Cost is $8. Participants are strongly urged to pre-register online. More information at
