The MN Sinfonia will present two concerts this summer at North Commons Park, 1801 James Ave. N. On Friday, July 25, 10 a.m., the group presents its Northside Children’s Concert. (Rain location: North Commons Rec Center.)
On Saturday, July 26, the group will perform at the Northside Music and Arts Festival. (Rain location: North Community YMCA, 1711 West Broadway.) The family event starts at 3 p.m. with music including local talent at 3 p.m. and the Sounds of Blackness at 4 p.m., leading up to the MN Sinfonia concert at 5:30 p.m., featuring Northside children from Lundstrum Center for the Arts performing The Nightingale. There will also be a Zumba clinic, a drum clinic, health screenings, and various art activities.
The family pops and festival concerts feature a mix of music from the movies and Broadway, waltzes, marches, light classics and more. The Minnesota Sinfonia is a professional chamber orchestra whose mission is to serve the musical and educational needs of the citizens of Minnesota, especially families with children, inner-city youth, seniors and those with limited financial means. The Sinfonia plays concerts for over 27,000 people each year, and is the only professional orchestra of its kind, offering all concerts free of admission charges, welcoming children to every performance, and dedicating over half its services to children in the inner-city schools.
