"Minneapolis Historical" app available
#11311
What: Available now, the ‘Minneapolis Historical’ app guides iPhone and Android users on a journey back to the Minneapolis of over 100 years ago. The app gives long-time residents and newcomers alike a window into the rich history of Minneapolis and its people, with the freedom of scheduling their own personal walking tour.

"Minneapolis Historical" features illuminating stories, guided audio tours, before-and-after photographs and video that show users the historical significance in neighborhoods all around the city. Google Maps is conveniently integrated into the app, allowing both residents of Minneapolis and tourists to plan their own walking tours of nearby historical sites.

The Vinzent Schuler House at 1012-14 17th Ave. N. on the Minneapolis & Saint Paul Home Tour (which offers a rare look inside) is one of the Old Highland stops on the app tour.

Old Highland and Marcy Holmes are the first of many neighborhoods to be featured on the app. Old Highland is an oasis of preservation in North Minneapolis, featuring some of the finest examples of Queen Anne and Victorian architecture built during Minneapolis’ "Golden Age." The app features 29 stops in Old Highland, each demonstrative of Minneapolis’ rich history. The Marcy Holmes section of the app features 24 historical sites from Minneapolis’ first neighborhood--the town of St. Anthony Falls.

The app is available for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

"Minneapolis Historical" was created by Preserve Minneapolis and the Old Highland Neighborhood Association with software developed by Cleveland State University.

This project has been made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008. Administered by the Minnesota Historical Society.
