Ukrainian Heritage Festival, Sept. 21

The annual Ukrainian Heritage Festival will be held Sunday, Sept. 21, noon-5 p.m. at the Ukrainian Event Center, 301 Main St. NE. The free event celebrates all things Ukrainian, and demonstrate Ukrainian-American contributions to community life in the Twin Cities area and beyond. The event will include live performances of Ukrainian dance and music, featuring the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Ensemble and the Ukrainian Village Band, special guest performaers Zorya Ukrainian Dance Association of Thunder Bay, Canada, as well as local singers and musicians. Activities include a Ukrainian cultural exhibit, a silent auction, kids’ carnival games, a photo booth with Ukrainian costumes, and an outdoor beer garden featuring Ukrainian and craft beer. Traditional foods will be available for purchase including varenyky ("pierogi"), grilled sausage from Kramarczuk’s, cabbage rolls, borscht and desserts. The Northside Neighborhoods Council will host an event entitled, "North First: EDUCATION," Monday, Oct. 6, 6-8:30 p.m., at the Capri Theater, 2927 Broadway Ave. Get to know other residents and neighborhood organizations over dinner, and hear some brief presentations about topics of interest to neighborhoods and residents.
