Frey wins DFL endorsement for 3rd Ward

Saying the "process has become flawed" and that older people and new Americans have been discouraged from taking part, Third Ward Council Member Diane Hofstede told the 3rd Ward DFL Convention May 4 that she would not submit her name for nomination.

Citizens for Resilience and Sustainability, a newly formed organization, will meet Saturday, May 18, 3-5 p.m., at the St. Anthony Community Center in the Council Chambers. Topics related to creating more community resilience and sustainability are presented and discussed. Thursday: The Craft of Sign Painting

The American Craft Council, 1224 Marshall St. NE, continues its spring lecture series Thursday, May 9, 7-9:30 p.m., with "The Craft of Sign Painting," a look at the endurance of hand-painted signs in America. Faythe Levine and Sam Macon, directors and authors of the recently released documentary and book, "Sign Painters," will discuss their project, highlight contemporary practitioners of sign painting, and cite examples of quality, hand-painted signs right here in the Twin Cities. Forrest Wozniak and Phil Vandervarrt, two Minneapolis-based artists featured in "Sign Painters," will also be present to illustrate the time-honored methods of their craft. The Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association (HNIA) will hold its annual meeting Thursday, May 9, 7 p.m. at the Firefighters Hall & Museum, 664 22nd Ave. NE. Agenda will include: HNIA Board Elections: 5 of the 9 HNIA board seats are up for election. Three of those directors are not seeking reelection; Neighborhood Vote: The HNIA Board of Directors proposes to allocate $60,000 for the purpose of developing a Small Area Plan for the Holland Neighborhood; and A Year-in-Review in Holland.
