Catholic Eldercare will host a free presentation on Monday, July 1, 1:30-3 p.m. at the MainStreet Lodge, 909 Main St. NE. How can people faithfully and responsibly discuss urgent issues brought to them by society? What beliefs and values count? How can people agree and differ? The focus will be on a faithful approach and/or on specific issues such as violence, race/culture, environment and economics . The MOMS Club of St. Anthony Village/Minneapolis-NE, MN is a local non-profit support group for mothers who stay at home with their children during the day, including those who have home-based businesses, work part time, or work the second or third shift. The group offers weekday activities for moms and kids, playdates, hobby groups, service projects, Mom’s Night Out, good friends, laughter, support and fun.

Citizens for Sustainability

Citizens for Sustainability (CFS) will hold a sustainability forum Saturday, June 15, 3-5 p.m., at the St. Anthony Community Center in the Council Chambers. CFS was formed in January 2013 as a citizen’s support group charged with helping promote and assist in implementing current and future sustainability initiatives in St. Anthony Village and surrounding communities. This includes promoting a wholesome, sustainable living environment; good health and healthcare services; a strong local economy; adequate, affordable modes of transportation; and neighborly communication and support.

AnimALgamation at Silverwood Gallery

The Silverwood Park Gallery at Silverwood Park, St. Anthony, will host an opening reception Thursday, June 13, 6-8 p.m. for an exhibition entitled, "AnimALgamation," featuring art by Al Wadzinski. Wadzinski creates zoomorphic assemblages using found objects of every material--valuable, mundane, cast-offs, delicate or impermeable, reclaimed from salvage yards, garage sales and alleys. He has exhibited at museums and galleries such as the Minnesota Museum of American Art, Gallery 360, Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and previously at NY Studio Gallery. The exhibition is free and runs June 13-July 31. For details, call 763-694-7707.

Ae, Q.arma present Bike Art

Altered Esthetics, 1224 Quincy St. NE, will host a month of bike-themed art and activities, with works from over 15 artists spanning the mediums of photography, painting and screen printing, exploring the different ways the art of biking is represented in these works. The show runs June 6-27, with an opening reception Friday, June 7, 7-10 p.m., and an artist discussion Saturday, June 8, 1-3 p.m. Featured artwork by Todd by Ellie Kingsbury. In conjunction with Ae’s Bike Art show, the Q.arma Building’s first floor gallery will host an exhibit of Minnesota MS bike event photos. Watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in Spanish at Logan Park, June 22

Logan Park Neighborhood Association (LPNA) will present a Spanish-language version of the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (with English subtitles). This is the third film in LPNA’s Northeast Film Series: Celebrating the Multicultural Identity of Northeast. Gene Wilder stars in this adaptation of the children’s story book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory written by Roald Dahl. The film will be shown Saturday, June 22, at dusk (9 p.m.), outdoors at Logan Park, 690 13th Ave. NE. El Taco Reindo food truck will sell Mexican delicacies on a street next to the park. Free popcorn for all.

Enroll your kindergartener at Heights

Columbia Heights Public Schools welcomes families to register their students for the 2013-2014 school year in the Placement Center, 1440 49th Ave. NE. Columbia Heights offers all-day kindergarten at each of the elementary schools. To enroll in Kindergarten children must be 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2013. CHPS Placement Center will be open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. until June 27, and will re-open on Aug. 5. CHPS serves the communities of Columbia Heights, Hilltop and the southern third of Fridley. Families living outside of this area may apply for open enrollment. North and Northeast Minneapolis families who wish to enroll in CHPS may also be eligible for free transportation through the Choice Is Yours Program. Requirements for registration are: copy of birth certificate, immunization records, school records and proof of residency. For more information, call the Placement Center at 763-528-4426.

Gardening activity for kids

Read and Grow participants will learn about gardening through hands-on activities and also get to bring home a special gardening project created during the program. Two events: Friday, June 7, 11 a.m., with Abrakadoodle; and Friday, July 5, 11 a.m., with Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. For children grades K-3. Northeast Ride is June 22

Sponsored by the Northeast Community Development Corporation (Northeast CDC), the second annual Northeast Ride is set for Saturday, June 22, starting at 10 a.m. at the Northeast Minneapolis Armory, 1025 Broadway St. NE. The ride is approximately 12 miles with stops in each neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis, passing historical landmarks such as the Casket Arts Building and the Grain Belt Brewery. Riders will stop at neighborhood parks where they can play lawn games and participate in other fun activities. The route is family friendly and designed for riders of all levels of experience. Riders will leave the starting location in small groups equipped with route maps, and bike mechanics will be available to assist riders along the route. This year’s Northeast Ride will highlight new bikeways and lanes throughout Northeast Minneapolis and encourage safe cycling on roads. Registration is $20 per rider and free for kids age 12 and under with the registration of a parent or guardian. Registration includes a Northeast Ride T-shirt, a light breakfast at the start of the ride, and an after party celebration. Registration is available online at www.northeastride.org, or in person at the ride. Same-day registration is $25.

4-H summer camps

Summer camps and outdoor adventures are being offered through the University of Minnesota Extension, Anoka County 4-H. These programs are held at 4-H Camp Salie located in Linwood Township. Camps are open to 4-H and non-4-H youth. These camps encourage learning about nature and the environment, making new friends, and indoor and outdoor recreation. Overnight camps: June 25-28 (grades 2-6); July 1-2 (grades 1-6). Day Camps: June 20 (grades K-5); July 1 (grades K-5). The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is kicking off the planning for the redesign of Northeast Park. Mark your calendar and get involved. All meetings will be held at Logan Recreation Center, 690 13th Ave. NE, and are open to the public. Thursday, June 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m., CAC Meeting & Community Workshop (project overview and needs assessment input). Wednesday, July 31, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Community Workshop/Charrette (overview, needs assessment summary, and interactive park design exercise). Columbia Heights Recreation offers various summer activities beginning June 10. Youth activities include Glitter Bugs (age 4-K), Dyno Hites (grades 1-3), S.P.A.R.K.S. (grades 4-5), Teens & Togetherness (TNT) (grades 6-8), martial arts (ages 3 and up). There will also be a mini safety camp Friday, June 7, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., for kids entering grades 1-8, with Heights Police and Fire departments, including lunch, soccer and an obstacle course.
