Motorists will not be able to exit northbound Interstate 35W at Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis Aug. 12–26, weather permitting.
The Hennepin Avenue exit ramp from northbound I-35W will close as crews continue constructing a new northbound auxiliary lane on I-35W from University Avenue to the Johnson Street exit.
Motorists intending to exit northbound I-35W at Hennepin Avenue will be detoured northbound to the Johnson Street exit and southbound on Stinson Boulevard.
This is the second of three I-35W ramp closures planned through September. The University Avenue/4th Street entrance ramp to northbound I-35W is closing Aug. 6 at midnight through Aug. 27, weather permitting.
The 3rd Street flyover ramp from northbound I-35W also will close for 21 days. A closure date for the ramp will be announced when it is determined.
The work is part of a larger I-35W project scheduled for completion in November, weather permitting. The project will improve traffic flow on northbound I-35W and 4th Street South, resulting in shorter travel times and cost savings for motorists through reduced fuel use.
